An Isle of Wight woman who was arrested for drug driving after police noticed her fog lights on, has appeared in court.

At the Isle of Wight Magistrates' Court on June 18, Jade Tigwell, of Godric Road, Newport, admitted drug driving.

Court heard how, on December 12, 2023 at 4pm, Tigwell, 35, was stopped by police on Horsebridge Hill, between Cowes and Newport.

Officers spotted her driving a Renault Clio with her fog lights on.

At Newport Police Station, she provided a blood sample which showed there was Benzoylecgonine and THC - derivatives of cocaine and cannabis - in her system, Lauren Stone, prosecuting, said.

Defending, Oscar Vincent said Tigwell was a person of good character who had never been in trouble with the law before.

He said she has a long history of mental illness and not long before the events she had also broken her ankle.

Because of these reasons, she was taking a "cocktail of strong medication" and this was the source of her levels exceeding the specified limit, he said.

He said cannabis was consumed but this was "some time beforehand".

Mr Vincent said she had only just bought the vehicle and was not aware her fog lights were on. There was no evidence of bad driving.

Magistrates adjourned sentencing to August 2 for a pre-sentence report.

Tigwell was given an interim driving ban.
