A FUNDRAISER set by an Isle of Wight woman in aid of 'struggling' local farmers affected by a fire, which ravaged one of their crop fields, hit her £2,500 target within three days.

Emma Davies posted her plea for the community to help on the Isle of Wight Community Information page on Facebook, following the fire in Appleford Road, Chale, on Thursday evening last week (20).

Kind-hearted Emma, who set up a GoFundMe page for her farming neighbours, went on a mission to raise £2,500 to help them.

Five teams of firefighters, a water carrier and Land Rover were sent to the scene.

The smoke could be seen as far away as Culver Down as it drifted north-east from Chale.

Emily said the farmers, neighbours of hers, lost all the grass that was cut for hay that day, during a "very difficult time" for them financially.

"They are some of the loveliest people we know, always willing to help out. I am heartbroken for them and want to do something to help," she said.

"Any donations made will go to help take off some of the burden of work, hay and money lost, to ease their troubles at this horrific time."
