IN A DRUNKEN rage, an Isle of Wight woman attacked her brother and threatened to "smash" their mother's face, before damaging their cars, a court was told.

Charlie Meteer had initially denied assaulting her brother, Jason Mateer, by beating, in Pallance Road, Northwood, on July 28 last year, when she appeared before Island magistrates on February 13.

The 33-year-old, of The Sidings, Cowes, changed her plea to guilty on the day of her trial, on May 9. She recently reappeared for sentencing.

Mateer also admitted to three charges of causing criminal damage, at the same address — her mother's home.

After a row, Mateer told her mother she would "smash her face", said Lauren Stone, prosecuting.

Mateer, in a drunken state, attacked her brother — "scratching, punching and kicking him", the bench heard.

As a result, he sustained injuries to his arms, legs and hands.

Her brother took Mateer's her car keys from her. When he refused to accede to her demands to give them back, she kicked the front door to the house.

Later, when he opened the door, she launched another assault on him, said Miss Stone.

He tried to push Mateer away, to prevent her from forcing her way into the property, fearing she would assault their mother.

In her anger, Mateer smashed the windscreens of her brother's Volkswagen Golf and their mother's Mitsubishi vehicle.

Mateer, with no previous convictions, also smashed a window to the property, to the value of £196.

For unemployed Mateer, Michael McGoldrick offered no mitigation, but said her actions were the result of a breakdown in family relations.

Magistrates handed her six months' probation, and a £340 compensation order.
