Over a week has passed since the Isle of Wight's East and West constituencies discovered their new MPs.

Here are just some of the County Press's photos showing the behind-the-scenes at the historic 2024 vote count.

After polls closed at 10pm last Thursday (July 4), the ballot boxes were taken to Medina Leisure Centre, where count assistants began counting every vote cast.

The hall at Medina was split into two sides for the historic occasion, IW East and IW West.

The results for IW West were finally declared at around 4am, while IW East was announced half an hour later.

The Island discovered that the Conservative's Joe Robertson and Labour's Richard Quigley had been named the first MPs of IW East and West, respectively.

Nine of the 12 candidates were present at the count from the beginning, with Bob Seely and Richard Quigley arriving shortly after 2am and Emily Brothers appearing around 40 minutes before the first declaration.

The contrast between the later arrivals was clear to all to see, with Seely visibly dejected and Quigley jubilantly bouncing around the hall.

The total turnout of this election, when comparing both constituencies, was 61.58 per cent, the lowest turnout in a General Election on the Island since 2005.
