Over 90 people attended the successful Open Day for People with Disabilities hosted by the Royal Victoria Yacht Club this year.

The event, which took place on July 6 and has been celebrated since 1981, offered enjoyable boat trips, barbecue lunch, and afternoon tea.

Guests were taken on trips spanning Wootton Creek on a range of motorised boats including the Whitewash and Ballistic RIBs, Strong Arm and Ricochet motorboats, and RVYC's launch, Victoria, due to windy conditions preventing sailing on The Solent.

Unfortunately, the Disabled Sailing Association’s catamaran was restricted to the pontoon for the day due to the weather.

Visitors were joined by deputy lieutenant Kate Collins, MP Joe Robertson, and Parish Councillor Cheryl Fontana, who also ventured onto the waters of Wootton Creek.

Beyond the boat crews, over 60 RVYC members volunteered, ensuring guests had a memorable day.

Refreshments were served by DW Hospitality with cakes provided by club members and donations from local businesses, including Medina Foods and Grace's Bakery.

Music amplified the lively atmosphere, courtesy of local bands, Island Jive and Run with The Pineapple.

The tombola raised over £300.

The next 'Open Day for People with Disabilities' is scheduled for July 12, 2025.
