One of the oldest events in the Isle of Wight's entertainment calendar — The Royal Isle of Wight County Show — returns today (Saturday).

Since 1833 the show has been an opportunity for the agricultural community to come together and showcase their talents.

From fantastic local food, quality Island art and creative craft, to the prize-winning animals and vintage tractors, there is plenty for the family to enjoy.

There will also be carriage driving, the Shetland pony grand national, the hobby horse event, and the big bale challenge.

Entry will be free for children under 16.

In the livestock area, visitors can watch the cows being milked and the sheep being sheared.

There will also be an opportunity to have a go at herding a pig or leading a calf.

Organisers said: "We are also delighted to have the sheep show return this year.

"Back by popular demand, enjoy the introduction to nine different breeds.

"Taking their place on stage accompanied by their very own theme tune, each has a story to tell.

"Nobby the Norfolk horn is the star of the show and he knows it!

"Why not have a go at the IOW Young Farmers rodeo bull and see if you have what it takes to stay on the bucking bronko!""

In the canine area the popular fun dog show will be taking place on both days of the show.

You are also invited to enter your perfect pooch, or see if you’ve got what it takes to win the new dog scurry event.

"With or without a dog they are both great fun to watch", organisers said.

On the village green there will be a full programme of acts on stage, catering for all ages.

There will also be a parent and child changing/feeding area next to their marquee.

While there is lots taking place all over the showground, the heart of the show remains everything rural.

The event takes place on Saturday, July 13 and Sunday, July 14.
