It is hoped that the Isle of Wight floating bridge will return to service 'within 24 hours', after being suspended yesterday evening (Thursday, July 11).

The Cowes to East Cowes bridge service was suspended at around 5.30pm following an electrical issue.

Contractors have been called, and it is hoped that the issue will be resolved within 24 hours, an IW Council spokesperson said.

A launch service is in place for foot passengers and cyclists, running from 5am to 11pm on weekdays and Saturdays and 6.30am and 11pm on Sundays.

The council apologises for any inconvenience caused.

Earlier, on Tuesday (July 9), the chain ferry was suspended while replacement chain guide wheels were fitted before briefly returning to service.
