A prolific Isle of Wight offender has been returned to prison after committing further crimes while out on licence.

Daniel Kilshaw, of High Street, Ventnor, attended the Isle of Wight Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, July 9.

The 43-year-old pleaded guilty to using threatening words or behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress and two counts of theft from a shop.

Liz Miller, prosecuting, said Kilshaw entered Lidl in Newport on June 25 and stole food and alcohol to the value of £33.67.

Ms Miller told the court that during the shoplifting, a member of the public tried to intervene before Kilshaw hurled abuse at them.

On July 4, Kilshaw placed £600 worth of items into a trolley before leaving Asda in Newport without paying, and a police officer saw him walking down the road with the trolley, said the prosecution.

Ms Miller explained that Kilshaw was on licence for previous shopliftings at the time of the offences, adding: “He shoplifts, goes on bail, then shoplifts again,” telling magistrates he should be remanded in custody.

A representative from the probation service said Kilshaw is “manageable in the community.”

Kilshaw was remanded in custody and will appear before magistrates on Tuesday, July 16.
