A man in his 20s has been arrested following an incident outside a popular Isle of Wight bar and attraction in Ryde last night (Saturday, July 13).

Police received reports of an assault and were sent to Ryde Esplanade, outside Ryde Superbowl and The Pavilion Bar & Grill, at around 11pm.

Multiple emergency vehicles and officers arrived at the scene, with a large police presence visible on the Esplanade.

A 23-year-old man from Wootton was subsequently arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm and obstructing/resisting a constable in execution of duty.

A witness said many other people were seen being spoken to by police.

A Hampshire and IW Constabulary spokesperson confirmed that the man remains in police custody at this time.
