A YELLOW weather warning for heavy rain has been issued for the Isle of Wight.

The Met Office has issued a weather warning for rain, active from 3pm today (Monday, July 15) to 9am tomorrow morning (Tuesday).

There will be outbreaks of rain, heavy at times, with a risk of thunder, which are expected to develop later this afternoon, then will move northwards through the evening and overnight.

The national weather service adds between 15mm and 20mm of rain may fall in less than an hour, with a few places seeing up to 40mm within a two-hour period, but perhaps more widely within a longer period overnight.

Where this occurs, there is the chance of some localised flooding and disruption.

What should I expect?

  • There is a slight chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
  • There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings
  • Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
  • Spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
