Isle of Wight indie-rock band, The Optimists, have released their latest single, Not a Big Deal, ahead of a summer schedule that includes a performance at Portsmouth’s Victorious Festival.

Describing the new track as their ‘most explosive yet,’ the band have explored a heavier sound and are inspired by 00s rock group, The Hives.

On the release of their newest single, which is out today (Friday), frontman Matt Read said: “Not A Big Deal is about having a carefree attitude, without the consequence of others.

“The lyrics followed after a rough December that left a bitter taste towards someone.”

Last year, the band released their debut EP, Small Talk, and guitarist Aaron Meakin and lead singer Matt spoke to the Isle of Wight County Press about it.

The EP followed a performance on the main stage at the 2023 Isle of Wight Festival after The Optimists won the Wight Noize competition.

On Friday, August 9, The Optimists will headline a concert at Newport’s Strings Bar and Venue with support from Wonderlux before taking to the stage at Victorious Festival, on Friday, August 23, on a lineup that also features Fatboy Slim, Snow Patrol and IDLES.

Not a Big Deal is available to stream on all major streaming services now.
