The celebration held at The Pavilion, found at Newport's Newclose County Cricket Ground, on Friday, July 19, was a reward for all their hard work and the completion of their formal examinations.

The event marked the end of their five years at Medina College.

Students certainly made their entrances in style with a buggy, vintage car, classic beetle, pink limousine and some very plush sports cars.

They entered the venue across a star-studded red carpet through two giant Oscars made by the college’s art and design tech departments, into a glitzy room, created with help from Blooming Balloons, to match the Hollywood Oscars theme.

Students enjoyed a buffet, thanks to a spread by Valentinos, followed by an array of desserts, before pupils were awarded some special awards on the night and even surprised some teachers with some of their own awards, presented by students Roxy and Eesa.

It was then time to crown the students’ choice for Prom King and Prom Queen – John and Ruby.

Following the awards, students enjoyed the disco and karaoke thanks to DJ Dave Wiltshire, filling the dancefloor and having photos taken by the magic mirror.

Head of year, Mrs Mills said “I am personally very proud of what an amazing cohort they have been throughout their entire time at Medina College.

“It was a fitting end for their time with us and I wish them every success in their onward journeys.”

The Newport-based business DJ Drilling generously donated £250 to help make the event possible.

Meanwhile, in May, the college held a lunch time ‘sponge the teacher’ event to raise funds for the prom, raising £150 in just 30 minutes!
