"No criminal offences were reported" following an alleged suspicious incident involving a man and two young girls on the Isle of Wight, said police.

Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary were called at 9.37pm on Saturday (August 10) with reports of an incident in East Cowes.

It was understood that a man had 'approached two girls in suspicious circumstances' around the Cowes Floating Bridge.

Police were informed that the man was followed back to an address by members of the public. 

Officers attended the scene and spoke to all parties involved in the incident. 

A police spokesperson said: "No criminal offences were reported.

"However, we will continue to respond to any reports of suspicious incidents and concerns in the community to establish the circumstances and take any necessary follow-up action."
