A controversial drone trial from the Isle of Wight to the mainland has been postponed following a residents’ meeting last week.

The six-month Inteliports trial was originally due to take flight from Cowes on Wednesday, August 7, but was delayed a week to give the Isle of Wight Council an opportunity to meet with residents in person to discuss concerns.

Following that meeting, the local authority has asked Inteliports to postpone any trial until after the summer holidays.

A spokesperson for the Council said: “We want to thank the residents of Mornington Road for attending a resident’s meeting last week.

“The Regeneration project team, along with Inteliports, appreciated the opportunity to meet with residents to discuss their concerns around the upcoming Inteliports Drone Trial.

“Following feedback from residents and other local stakeholders, the council has asked Inteliports to postpone any trial until after the summer holidays.

“This provides the council with time to consider the licence for access to the site.

“The carpark will therefore not be closed from tomorrow (Wednesday, August 14)."

As previously reported, operator Inteliports hopes the project will create a drone corridor to Fawley on the mainland, improving the community's access to goods and decarbonising Island logistics.
