The much-anticipated Ryde Main Carnival gets underway this evening (Thursday, August 29), promising an event full of vibrant performances and festivities.

The procession, featuring the Medina Marching Band, Vectis Cops of Drums Marching Band and Raw Samba, is set to dazzle the streets of Ryde.

For those planning to attend this evening’s event, be sure to arrive by 6.15pm to secure your spot for the colourful and lively celebrations.

This year, the Ryde Carnival Association (RCA) is pleased to announce the return of the wheelchair-accessible viewing platform at Eastern Gardens, ensuring that everyone can enjoy the festivities.

Organisers are encouraging attendees to make the most of this facility, stating: “We encourage everyone to take advantage of this opportunity and partake in the Carnivals from the comfort of the platform.”

The carnival will assemble at 5pm at the Canoe Lake, with judging taking place at 5.45pm.

The procession will set off at 6.30pm, following the route along the Esplanade, Dover Street, Park Road, Star Street, High Street, Union Street and finishing up on the south side of the Esplanade.

Last year's main carnival was cancelled due to appalling weather.

Jo, chair of RCA, said: “We never like to cancel any of our carnival events, but sometimes, due to factors beyond our control such as bad weather, we have to make the very difficult decision to cancel.

“Please keep an eye on our social media @rydecarnival and our website, rydecarnival.com, for updates."
