An Isle of Wight pub has been forced to temporarily close its doors due to roof repairs, but, plans to reopen soon.
Wootton’s The Sloop Inn made the initial announcement from its social media account yesterday afternoon (Sunday), stating 'structural issues'.
Today (Monday), the pub confirmed it is undergoing roof repairs and will remain closed, with the aim to reopen tomorrow evening.
The closure comes after a challenging few days for the pub, which had to delay its opening on Friday until midday due to flooding – a reoccurring problem due to frequent flooding at Wootton Bridge.
The Sloop is well-known for its carvery roasts, stone-baked pizzas, burgers and fish and chips.
A change in ownership in 2017 saw The Sloop transition from Crown Carvery to Stonehouse Pizza and Carvery, a brand under the national restaurant group Mitchells & Butlers.

The change brought significant investment to the venue, although recent feedback suggests that customers feel further updates are needed.
In response to TripAdvisor complaints about a perceived "lack of investment," one of the managers recently confirmed that a refit is due in November 2024.
Patrons are encouraged to keep an eye on The Sloop Inn's Facebook page for further closure updates.
