Island businesses have been impacted by flash flooding.
The flash flooding hit businesses on South Street and Nodehill in central Newport mid-morning on Sunday (September 8), with many having to close the ground floors of their premises, or close their doors entirely.
Deichmann, on South Street, saw water enter the building from precipitation and drains.
Supervisors Nick and Teresa spent the day clearing the shop floor and protecting stock.
Nick said: "It was the perfect storm. We haven't seen anything like it in the business before.
"We've been fastidious and cleaned everything, as we need to make sure that customers are safe."
Deichmann had to change their plans from carrying out a promotional change to mopping, washing and sanitising the shop.
The business saw water enter the building from the front, back and side, with Nick and Teresa staying until 7.30pm to ensure the business could open for trading the next day.
Similar chaos was replicated across central Newport, with Richmond Bakery setting up tables in the entrance to sell cakes at discounted prices due to an excess in stock from an event.
Cafe and bakery manager Immy said: "We're getting there slowly but surely.
"We asked for help on our Instagram to clean up and loads of people came down.
"One guy bought 60 slices of cake!"
The business sold out of cake and was able to reopen at 1pm today (Monday) for sitting customers.
Fresh rainfall figures have shown the cause of the flash flooding.
New Look's ground floor remained closed this morning, with staff still cleaning up.
One staff member describing the water from the flooding as "ankle deep".
Water entered the premises from the back and the front.
Sports Direct closed its doors for trading yesterday, but after cleaning up all day, was able to open today.
Cloud 9 Fashion was also impacted by the floods, with water entering the back of the premises.
