A NUMBER of live screenings can be found on the Isle of Wight this weekend, including a film night from a popular Ventnor screenwriter.

Tomorrow (Saturday), Brading Roman Villa is showing Can You Ever Forgive Me? (15) from 7pm.

The film follows the story of Lee Israel, played by Melissa McCarthy ­— an adaptation of the memoir relaying the true story of the best-selling celebrity biographer.

When Lee falls out of step with current tastes, she turns her art form to deception.

On Tuesday, Ventnor Film Society is hosting its Ventnor Fringe event ­— a film night presented by Island screenwriter Hannah George, from 7.30pm.

Hannah ­— winner of a Writer’s Guild Award for her recent BBC3 comedy sketch ­— will be presenting a selection of her favourite short films ­— some of them shot on the Island.

Following an interval, in which snacks will be served, there will be a screening of a recent award-winning feature film, chosen by Hannah.

On Wednesday, Friends of Freshwater Library is screening Fisherman's Friends (12A) from 7.30pm.
