WRESTLING is not a sport for the faint-hearted, but for its fans there will be non-stop action at the next Outcast Pro Wrestling (OPW) event at Newport’s Riverside Centre tonight (Saturday).

The sold out event — their second show at the venue — will bring together a superb card, which will blend the best of the Isle of Wight’s wrestling talent with that of national renown.

It will feature the inaugural OPW Tag Team Champions tournament, with Island teams, The Perfect Storm and Outcast Death Squad, aiming to make their mark.

Also, the OPW Women’s Championship will be defended by Zan Phoenix against Jayde.

There will be a bone crunching battle royale for the Isle of Wight Championship, with the title holder, Jackson Arrow, up against number one contender, the 450lb, 6ft 8in beast, Maxx Carnage.

The main event of the evening will see Bad Bro’ Josh Bodom take on Eddie ‘The English Lion’ Ryan, in a match that would grace any arena around the country.

OPW continue to go from strength to strength with their live shows — including their last one at Coburg’s in Ryde — as well as their own Sandown-based wrestling school, with children and adult sessions run multiple times a week.

OPW promoter Matt Jackson, delighted by the way the Island wrestling scene had taken off since he established OPW last year, said: “I am so proud to be able to say we have sold out the event again.

“It is testament to how far the local guys have come that we’re able to attract talent of the calibre of Josh Bodom and Eddie Ryan, who have wrestled all over the world and appeared on WWE NXT:UK”

There will be an over-18 show at the Strings Bar and Venue, Newport, on Saturday, August 17, and another family show at the Riverside Centre on Saturday, October 26.
