ST HELENS youngster Arthur Attrill is getting himself noticed as a tennis talent after he made it a hat-trick of big county level titles this summer.

Arthur, with the U12 singles title under his belt at the Sussex Open earlier this summer, excelled in the annual Hampshire and Isle of Wight County Championships in Winchester — smashing both U12 titles, the singles and doubles.

Paired with Dennis Dimov, of Woking Lawn Tennis Club, they proved themselves as the two leading county players by both winning through to the singles final convincingly.

To get there, Arthur beat the number one seed and defending champion 6-2, 6-2 in his semi-final.

The final was a very close match, with Arthur saving two set points in the first set to force a tie break, winning it 7-4 with some powerful, outright forehand winners.

After more than two hours of high quality play, Arthur held his nerve to serve out for the match and win 7-6, 7-5 to become county champion for the second time, the other occasion being the U9 singles title in 2016.

The Islander’s great year with the racquet also included his selection to play in a singles event for the top 32 players in Great Britain.

Arthur also represented the Hampshire and Isle of Wight U12 boys’ team in the Inter-County Cup, in Chswick, London, winning all his matches against Sussex, Dorset and Oxfordshire — just missing out on a place in the national finals.

Arthur, 12, is the son of Olympic gold medal winning rower, Louis Attrill.
