THE FA Cup dream is over for Islander Scott Jones after plucky Chichester City were beaten by Tranmere Rovers in Sunday's televised second round clash.

Isle of Wight-born Scott, 29, of Haylands, almost made history after ten minutes when his stooping header in the centre of the Tranmere box flew inches wide when it was goalless.

He had another opportunity — albeit a much more difficult one — a few minutes later when his header, under pressure was easily saved.

Scott tracked back well on the right, helping to keep the score goalless at half-time.

Defensive errors and fatigue allowed Tranmere to eventually win the tie 5-1, watched by a TV audience of millions.

BT Sport commentator, Ian Darke, mentioned during the first half Scott's American girlfriend had wanted the Islander to join her for Thanksgiving in the United States, but that he "won that particular argument" by playing in the tie.

Fellow Islander, Dan Butler, was in the Peterborough United side which beat non-league Dover Athletic in the second round on Sunday.

The FA Cup third round draw will take place live on BBC 2 this evening at 7pm.
