FOR the second time in the space of a week Whitecroft and Barton Sports were knocked out of a cup competition — this time at the hands of their biggest rivals, Brading Town, in the Hampshire FA Trophy.

Despite going down to ten men, after Aaron Burford was sent off for a bad challenge in the first half, Brading did not look like the team with a player fewer — battling well and winning it with a deserved James Phipps header on 77 minutes.

To make things worse for W & B, Keilan Sainsbury was red-carded for a harsher challenge than Burford's a minute later.

The Romans saw out the game well, in front of a crowd of 85 at Cowes Enterprise College, to book their place into the semi-final.

Cowes Sports ended a run of nine successive defeats in all competitions by picking up a point in their 3-3 draw at Bournemouth Poppies in the Sydenhams Wessex Premier.

Two mistakes allowed the home side to go 2-0 early on, but the Yachtsmen pulled one back through Ji Nash on the half hour.

But Cowes allowed Bournemouth to extend their lead to 3-1.

The Islanders were handed a way back into the game when Ewan Cranwell pulled one back from the penalty spot before half-time.

A good short corner routine saw Cowes equalise.

Gareth Bricknell's short corner to Nash was crossed in and met the head of Ashley Brett.

In Division 1, Newport dropped two points at home to Ringwood Town.

Ringwood opened the scoring on 35 minutes when a long-range strike caught Port keeper, Gary Streeter, off guard.

It wasn't until the 66th minute when Newport pulled it level through Jordan Browne.

Joe Craig was unlucky to see his cross-cum-shot hit the inside of the Ringwood post, then cleared, with a few minutes remaining.

East Cowes Vics played well, but ultimately lost by a single goal at table-topping United Services Portsmouth.
