A DEDICATED Isle of Wight martial arts expert is celebrating 50 years spent mastering various combat techniques.
In 1973, Simon Lailey ‘discovered’ Oriental martial arts.
He was 12, and now he is 62.
“Since then, I have travelled the world in my quest for excellence, living and training in China, Hong Kong, Australia, America and Taiwan,” said Simon.
“Learning from and interviewing many masters and grandmasters along the way.
“Eight years ago, while researching my art in China, I met a Buddhist abbot and, as a result, I am now a Buddhist and training under him.
“I have also been given permission to teach his discipline.
“As a brief breakdown, I have trained for 45 years in Buddhism, 45 years in Filipino martial arts, 25 years in karate, 30 years in Kung Fu, and 20 years in Tai Chi.
“And it doesn’t stop here. There is still more to come.”
