FANS of Southampton FC on the Isle of Wight may be feeling exactly the same as the man supporters have nicknamed 'Le God' — Matt Le Tissier — after he turned to Twitter to slam the Saints following confirmation of their relegation from the Premier League yesterday (Saturday).
Le Tissier — a legend and true one-off at Saints — said the squad should "hang their heads in shame" and that he had "never witnessed such a gutless, lazy and passionless performance" in all his life against Fulham.
Fulham sent Saints down with a 2-0 win at St Mary's.
The Saints' poor season comprised just six wins from 36 games, with games against Brighton and Liverpool to come.
Le Tissier knows exactly what it's like to be embroiled in a relegation dogfight, having helped his side escape the drop several times in his career.
Sad to see what’s happened to my team this season. So much money invested (140 million ish) yet so little return. I’ve never witnessed such a gutless lazy and passionless performance from a relegation threatened team in all my life, that squad should hang their heads in shame 🤬

At the final whistle yesterday, Saints fans who stayed at St Mary's directed boos and some abuse at players and the board.
Le Tissier will be coming to the Isle of Wight to take centre stage again, at Newport’s Medina Theatre, on November 18, where he will no doubt expand on his views of where the club is going.
- The Isle of Wight County Press would love to hear from the Island's Saints fans. Please send your views in the comments or by email to: sport@iwcpmail.co.uk
