VETERAN Isle of Wight athlete Pete Young led the way for Ryde Harriers when they made the trip across The Solent to compete in the Alresford Rotary 10km race.
The Harriers' men's captain, Trevor McAlister, together with Pete and Elliot Tyler, were at the Hampshire town representing the club on Sunday.
The race did not begin in the best possible way, as several runners tripped on the starting line mat, which was momentarily displaced.
Running on a course of pleasant countryside roads, and in 23C heat, the runners were given that extra boost at the end, just when they needed it.
Elliot said: "There was a brilliant atmosphere at the finish line, with enthusiastic spectators cheering on the runners."
The challenging route had been undulating throughout with significant uphill sections of the run.
Trevor came in as first Harrier in 40.15, with evergreen Pete finishing as first Vet 75 in an excellent 45.48, then Elliot in 51.58.
- The Isle of Wight Half Marathon is on August 20.
