FOUR pickleball players from the Isle of Wight earned medal successes in Hertfordshire at the weekend.
The round-robin event, the Hertfordshire Mixed Doubles Pickleball Tournament, was held at Hatfield University Sports Hall, comprising around 100 competitors.
Simon Proffitt, who established pickleball on the Island. paired up with Sarah Howell, along fellow Island pairing, Alan Nixon and Kay Montagu.
Play took place across a packed Saturday programme.
Simon and Sarah eventually came third after winning the third and fourth place play-off.
They also beat the eventual winners along the way.
In their category, Alan and Kay also managed a podium place, also winning bronze.
Simon said: “It was a very long day for all of us, but the trip was well worth it — to end up doing so well.
"We all play at the West Wight Sports and Community Centre, which is rapidly becoming a Mecca for pickleball on the Island."
