THERE was disappointment for the Wessex League Division 1 sides East Cowes Vics and Newport football clubs this evening.
Both were in cup action across The Solent tonight (Tuesday) hoping to pick up a bit of lost form, but it wasn't to be.
In the second round of the Wessex League Cup, Vics played away at Wessex Premier mid-table outfit Laverstock & Ford.
The club posted on X: "It ends 4-2 here. A slow start and missed chances on the day made it a difficult job for us to get back into the game.
"A credit to lads who came out flying second half and more than matched the higher league opposition. Lots of positives to take going forward."
There was similar upbeat spirit at Newport FC, who faced United Services Portsmouth, but lost four goals to nil.
The team posted: "Finishes 4-0 and despite the scoreline a really solid display from our team, full of fight….. some really good performances but MOTM goes to Nicky Vyse who didn’t stop working throughout… back to the league Saturday UTP."
