All of our Isle of Wight Wessex League clubs are in action today (Saturday, January 6), as all three look to start 2024 off with a bang.
Cowes Sports vs Shaftesbury
Premier Division side Cowes Sports welcome league leaders Shaftesbury to Westwood Park.
The visitors saw their midweek fixture at Portland United postponed, but will still come into this game confident, having played out an 8-2 win at home to strugglers Christchurch on December 30.
The Yachtsmen’s last outing, also on December 30, saw them travel across the Solent and claim all three points in a 2-1 win away at Hamble.
Cowes find themselves in sixth, just two points behind the play-off positions, with three games in hand on Brockenhurst above.
Kick-off at Westwood Park is at 3pm.
Meanwhile, in Division One, Vics host Ash United and Newport travel to Folland Sports.
East Cowes Vics vs Ash United
Vics, much like Cowes, find themselves just outside the play-off positions, five points behind Cove – with a game in hand.
Today’s opponents, Ash United, sit one in 16th, with their last match seeing a 4-2 loss at home to the aforementioned Cove.
The Islander’s most recent fixture was a 2-2 draw at Beatrice Avenue against league-leaders Downton.
Kick-off is at 3pm.
Newport vs Folland Sports
Newport are the only Island side to be fresh from midweek action, having shared the points with Fleetlands in a 1-1 draw on Wednesday, January 3.
Port are around five to six matches behind most teams in Division One this season, having a series of games postponed late in 2023 due to weather and travel woes.
As a result, Newport are in 17th and will be looking to start their climb back up the table against Folland Sports – who beat bottom-side New Milton Town last time out.
Kick-off at The Arrow Arena is 3pm.
