Two Isle of Wight runners have started their 2024 seasons in excellent form, with success in the USA and at the British Masters Indoor Championships.
Earlier this month, Henry McLuckie lined up in a strong 3,000m race at the University of Washington’s indoor meeting in Seattle, and from the gun, the pace was quick.
Henry started sensibly before making his way up to the leaders, picking up the pace and setting a new personal best of seven minutes and 47 seconds.
Returning on Saturday, he once again faced a strong field in the Invitational Mile.
The Washington track is an unusual 307m in length, making lap split times difficult, but Henry took up the running and was still leading into the last lap – but was pipped just before the finish, but securing another personal best.
Ryde Harrier Dan Eckersley travelled to Sheffield for the British Masters Indoor Championships to compete in the 3,000m Men’s 35-39 category.
After a fast start, Dan caught the early leader but was aware of his fast finish, so pushed on to use his endurance to try to win the race.
Unfortunately, Dan could not hold him off and had to settle for a silver medal, with a fast time of eight minutes and 40 seconds.
