The 29-year-old also clocked up Great Britain's second furthest throw, bettered only by Lawrence Okoye's 68.24m in 2012, and has moved from tenth to second in the UK rankings.

In Oklahoma, after improving his PB by over two metres, the five-time British champion, who is from Bonchurch, consolidated his achievement by following it up with a 63.87m distance, in tough conditions.

Nick, who was trained by Island athletics legend Ray Scovell, hopes to compete at the Olympics.

With Paris looming in August, he must now show form and consistency, and finish in the top two at the British Championships in June.
