There was success for Shanklin Sandown Rowing Club across two events over the weekend of May 25.

Three crews travelled to Dorney Lake for the National Schools regatta, the country’s biggest junior rowing event.

Carter Horrix and Louis Sheasby produced another dominant performance to win the boys J16 double sculls.

The crew won the time trial by ten seconds and then, in the final, led from the start, holding a boat length’s lead over their main challengers.

They went on to extend that to two lengths in the closing stages.

Fred Giemza-Pipe secured an excellent fifth spot in the B final of the J18 single sculls, recording a new personal best time for 2k.

The girls J14 coxed quad of Rose Collier, Connie Batley-Smith, Ella Haydon, Layla Katirewa and Esme Walters (cox), produced an excellent performance to finish third in the B final.

The club also enjoyed further success at the second Hants and Dorset regatta of the season at Poole.

There were wins for the girls J14 quad and the girls J14 double of Katirewa and Batley-Smith, with crew mates Izzy Bounds and Rose Collier finishing in second spot.

Esme Walters, competing in the Ladies Novice sculls, coped well in challenging conditions, recording a third spot finish on her coastal sculling debut.
