VENTNOR'S inconsistent form which has failed to kick-start their season, continued with defeat away at Waterlooville on Saturday (June 6).

Ventnor bowled well to contain the hosts, restricting the hosts to 214-9, with Daniel Cox grabbing 3-36.

However, the Islanders' innings never really got going, as they reached 179-9 — 35 runs short — with decent contributions from Sam Guerin (64) and Sam Mills (63).

The defeat leaves them in mid-table.

In Hampshire 1, Ryde picked up a narrow, one-wicket victory at home to Alton.

Alton were put under pressure by Ryde's bowlers and could only reach a modest 158 all out, with consistent performer Tom Durman getting 4-30.

In reply, Ryde nervously got over the line, with nine wickets down — wicketkeeper Tom Roscoe top scoring with 41.

Ventnor II remain top of Hampshire 3 (South) after they comprehensively defeated Waterlooville II by eight wickets.

Charlie Turpin (2-17) and Hugh Calloway (2-19) led the Ventnor attack, skittling the visitors for 129, at Steephill.

Martin Blackman hit an unbeaten 69 to see Ventnor home.

Shanklin and Godshill, on a recent poor run of form, remain in third place despite losing to Totton and Eling by 50 runs at Westhill.

Nathan Moore got 3-34 as the 'Totts' reached 238 all out, but Shanklin's batting came up short, with Ben White (41) showing some resistance.

In Hampshire 4 (South), Ryde II had a bad on the road — losing by 97 runs to the Southampton Tuskers.

Jibin Mathew grabbed 3-42 as they restricted th3e Tuskers to 188 all out.  

Ryde, in reply, crumbled to 91 all out, five players scoring ducks.

The Island clubs were in cup action last weekend.

In the Isle of Wight Senior Cup group stage, Newport beat Northwood by six wickets.

Northwood reached a mediocre 179-9, with Kevin Cooper (43) and Newport's Ash Brett (3-33), the key players.

In reply, Newport reached their target quite comfortably, with Tom Dye (69 not out) and Louis Payne (42).

Ventnor III beat Shanklin II by 177 runs.

Ventnor reached a mammoth 255-6, with Tom Stafford (60) and Jake Toulson (53) top scoring, with K. Williams grabbing 4-37.

Shanklin were bowled out for 78.

In the Fred Winter Cup, group stage, Newport II beat Northwood II by 43 runs at Newclose, while Cowes hammered Shanklin III  (53 all out) by eight wickets, in just 7.3 overs — with bowler J. Jones posting 4-3.
