The Isle of Wight played host to young athletes from across the country on July 7.

The Ray Scovell Athletics Centre, Sandown welcomed visiting teams from Swindon, New Forest Juniors, Southampton, Marlborough and Oxford. 

Island athletes fought their way to their best result of the season.

Each athlete's performance translates into points for the team and each age group result is recorded and then an overall team score given.

The U13 Boys and U15 Boys were both second, while the U13 Girls and both U17 Women and Men were third.

Overall results saw Swindon, who scored 636.5, come first; second was New Forest Juniors with 403.5; third was the Isle of Wight with 344; fourth was Southampton with 210; fifth was Oxford with 19 and sixth was Marlborough with 174.

The U11 Quadkids event is scored separately and each athlete competes over four disciplines: 75m, 600m, Long Jump and Vortex Howler throw.

The Isle of Wight Athletic Club (IWAC) team comprised of eight girls and three boys.

Strong performances came from Amelia Riggs, who was third and Halle McDonald, who was fifth.

Top scoring boy for IWAC was Edward O'Neil, who was ninth. The girls and boys are scored separately with a combined score to provide an overall result.

The girls were second narrowly beaten by Swindon and the boys were beaten into fourth by just two points by Oxford.

The combined score was as follows: Swindon, 1721; New Forest Juniors, 1387; Isle of Wight, 1236; Oxford, 1135; Marlborough, 883; Southampton, 766.

Among the individual highlights were Ruby Sargent, who came first in 200M, in the U13s.

There were also wins in the U17s for Sophie McCallum in the 100m and Skyler Brown in the B 100m.

Jess Henderson and Amy Greenwell both won their respective Discus competitions and Amy Greenwell won the B Shot Put. 

Charlotte Jenkins won the Javelin.

In the U13 Boys, Theo Foster won the B race and Noah Gartell won the Javelin.

In the U15 Boys, Noah Cherry won the Shot Put, Finlay Brown won the B Discus and Ben McCormack won the D Shot Put.

Isaac Phillimore toom first in U17 Men 100m, 200m and Long Jump, while Joey Cooper was first in the B 100m and A 400m.
