An Isle of Wight rower is preparing to represent Team GB at the 2024 Paralympic Games later this week.

Annie Caddick will represent Great Britain alongside Sam Murray in the PR3 mixed double sculls between August 30 and September 1.

Growing up on the Island, where she developed her passion for water sports, Annie spent her free time surfing with her family and her summers lifeguarding our beaches.

Banners wishing Annie the best of luck at the Paralympics have been put up around Bembridge.

Annie, who has cerebral palsy, started rowing during her time at Birmingham University after she felt she could keep up with her able-bodied teammates and was treated as an equal.

Her career highlights include a podium place at the 2023 European Championships and achieving Paralympic qualification at the world championships.

Speaking last month, Annie said: “Each day, it gets a bit closer, and I get a little more excited and a little more nervous.

“Sam and I have built a great partnership, and we are looking forward to being the first to represent Great Britain in this boat class.

“The competition is fierce, and the standard is very close, so I think we’ll see some exciting racing!”
