A significant top of the table clash took place on the Isle of Wight at Beatrice Avenue.

Second in the league Island club East Cowes Vics welcomed league leaders Frimley Green on Saturday, September 14.

Vics came into the fixture wanting to bounce back from mid-week disappointment, losing 4-3 on penalties to Cowes Sports in the second round of the Hampshire senior cup.

East Cowes Vics 2 - 1 Frimley Green

Frimley Green started buoyantly, with two chances in the early stages of the game not taken.

Vics' Josh Neale and Scott Jones completed a neat passage of play, but Frimley Green goalkeeper Jake Mckelvie dealt with the challenge.

Frimley's number nine Nic Cardini almost capitalised on Vics goalkeeper Alex Ram's poor goal kick in the 23rd minute, with Ram having to pull a good save at an immediately fired back shot.

Momentum was with Vics, with Scott Jones' cross setting up Toby Snow, forcing a good save from Mckelvie, and an inches wide effort from Jacob Reynolds.

Deadlock was broken by Vics in the 41st minute, with Rafferty BOYD-KERR getting on the end of a Zak Sullivan cross to make it 1-0 to the home side.

Half time didn't stop the home team in their tracks, with Vics playing expansively and doubling their lead.

The goal came in the 49th minute, with Toby Snow running in from his own half to provide the assist to Josh NEALE.

Several more chances came Vics' way to add to their comfortable lead, all eluding the net.

Frimley claimed one goal back in the 70th minute, with Vics giving the ball away 30 yards from goal, allowing Nick CARDINI to chip Alex Ram from 25 yards out, making the score 2-1.

Frimley pushed the home side, but Vics stayed strong and saw the game through.

The home team claim the top spot in Wessex League Division One having beaten the league leaders.
