ELLIS MARY The family would like to thank The Revd Andrew Poppe for organising and conducting a truly memorable service at St Mary the Virgin Cowes to celebrate the life of the late Mary Ellis. Our thanks to Church Wardens Chris Buckett and Barbara Winder for preparing the church and the lovely flower arrangements, and organist Carol Baker who with the choir encouraged us all to sing with gusto. Also, to all the speakers who delivered their eulogies, reading and poem with feeling and a dash of humour: Derek Hermiston, Graham Rose, Charles Bawdon, Grp Capt Anne-Marie Houghton, Councillor Clare Mosdell and Alison Hill. Dan Griffiths, flying Spirit of Kent a Mark 9 Spitfire from Biggin Hill Heritage Hangar, who thrilled everyone with his daring aerobatic display and salute. Maxi Gainza flying his Spitfire MV154 (signed by Mary Wilkins) and Matt Jones flying City of Exeter kindly lent to Boultbee Academy by Martin Phillips for this occasion. Christopher Bland, a good friend to Mary who proposed the toast with, rather appropriately, blue skies overhead. Northwood House and the volunteers who let us end the day in such lovely surroundings. The family would like to thank Revd Frances Watson who conducted a gentle private funeral service for Mary and who attended when Mary was laid to rest by the side of her much beloved husband Donald. Last and certainly not least we thank William, Jason and Tracy and all the staff at William Hall Funeral Directors for their professionalism, steadying hand, understanding and kindness in organising an elegant private funeral and then a rather special memorial service. To everyone who honoured Mary by attending, we thank you.
