Lee Beck's picture of red buses at Newport Bus Station (main image above) sparked a lot of comments about the colour of Southern Vectis buses through the ages.

There were also fond memories of the cafe at the bus station — Gemma Read said: "I remember the cafe and having beans on toast with a cuppa tea.. lush!"

Tony Vanderbaan credits a bus station visit as the catalyst for his painting career. He said: "I discovered my first lime milkshake in the bus station cafe — I had one recently in a milkbar on the south coast of New South Wales which brought back some great memories.

"Who remembers the little art shop at the far end? Mum bought me a watercolour set from there when I must have been 13 — still have the little metal box the paints came in. This led me to painting, I have a diploma in Commercial Art and still paint to this day."

Gwynn White posted a picture of her brother, Graham, with his life-long friend John McConkey with a car and John Matthews remembered being at Sandown Grammar School with Graham and John between approximately 1954 and 1961.

John Cole had a lovely picture of one of the previous floating bridges, which people remembered sometimes got stranded because of the falling tide.

Julian Russell added a lovely picture of a Vauxhall Cresta driving through water near The Crab Inn's car park in Shanklin Old Village. He said: "This was the great flood of 1960, with water rushing down to join the Chine. A lovely almost-new Vauxhall Cresta, and they didn't like water very much! This car survives to this day, and can be seen at car shows."
