Nothing was going to stop Andrew and Michaela Baker or Nicola and Martin Bissell from getting married — not even the Covid crisis.

Andrew and Michaela shrugged off the threat of the second lockdown to be married at The Royal Hotel, Ventnor, on November 4, and they had their reception there too.

Michaela explained: “The biggest challenge for us was moving the entire wedding forward three days within three days of the announcement.

“The original date was the November 7, 2020 — the Saturday after lockdown two started — with more than 60 guests to the ceremony and over 100 to the evening reception.

“It was hard reducing the number of guests down to 30, let alone reducing it further down to 15. Luckily I had only sent invites out when we were allowed 30 guests.

“It was nerve-racking knowing there was another announcement a week before the wedding, but hearing that we were being put into another lockdown before our original date when we got so close broke me. Luckily the day of the announcement I spent that evening emailing the venue and the register office asking if we could move the wedding forward.”

The Bakers, who live in Newport, would like to thank Angela from the register office for her help in moving to the new date; Maria, the events co-ordinator at The Royal Hotel, for going above and beyond; Frostbite Bakery for the cake; Summer Lilly's florist for the flowers and Tps Photography IW for being able to move to the new date and capturing the most amazing photos.

Michaela wore a white fitted lace dress with crystal detail and a matching veil. Andy wore a dark blue suit with matching waistcoat and a red wine tie and their three-year-old son wore a matching suit.

The couple hope to go on honeymoon when the world is back to some form of normal.

Nicola and Martin Bissell also got married last year, at the register office on September 19.

The couple, from Ryde, have been together for 12 years and held their wedding reception at Briddlesford Farm, Wootton, which proved a popular choice.

Isle of Wight County Press: Covid style

Nicola and Martin Bissell's Covid style wedding.

Nicola said: “Having the reception at the dairy farm was close to my heart as my family on my mother’s side were dairy farmers and I grew up doing milk rounds.

“Everything about the wedding was great, especially spending time with my family and the cows!”

She added the fact the Covid rules kept changing made planning the big day a challenge and has also meant they haven’t arranged a honeymoon yet.

“We would like to thank all our friends and family, but especially Briddlesford Farm, who went above and beyond to ensure our wedding was a great day.

“Covid certainly made our wedding one to remember!”
