Darren posted a 1989 County Press clipping and a selection of pictures taken at a fire at the spot, which was then Medina Motor Repairs.

Three fire appliances and 18 firefighters attended — four were later treated at the Royal Isle of Wight County Hospital, Ryde.

According to the County Press report, the area was evacuated because the garage contained three potentially explosive gas cylinders.

Three cars inside the garage were destroyed by the blaze, as was the roof at the back of the building.

Darren, who worked at Medina Motor Repairs in the late 1980s, said the garage was rebuilt after the fire.
