The Isle of Wight Green Party has revealed its candidates for the local election on May 6 and one is hoping to unseat the leader of the Isle of Wight Council.

In Chale, Niton and Shorwell, Conservative leader Councillor Dave Stewart faces a challenge from Green Claire Critchison.

It is not the only area where Isle of Wight voters will be asked to choose between just two candidates - with the winner gaining a seat at County Hall in Newport.

A head-to-head race is underway in Cowes North, where Labour's Richard Quigley is hoping to take the seat of Conservative Richard Hollis.

In Freshwater North and Yarmouth, the choice is between Green Daniel James and Conservative Peter Spink.

In Freshwater South, Conservative George Cameron and Independent John Medland are both hoping for the seat.

In Pan and Barton, Independent Geoff Brodie is being challenged by Conservative Danielle Fleet.

Other areas of the Island will see a wider choice on the ballot paper.

A host of new names will also appear, as a number of existing councillors step down
