WHICHEVER way you slice it, the hilarious store war over Marks and Spencers and Aldi's caterpillar cakes has created a social media frenzy but — not to be outdone — award-winning Ventnor ice cream parlour Crave might just have the manic multinationals licked with their version of it.

As M&S lodge an intellectual property claim with the High Court, after Aldi produced a copy of the Colin the Caterpillar cake, called Cuthbert, Isle of Wight company Crave, based in Spring Hill, has produced its own cone-flict of interest — Crave the Caterpillar.

Social media went bananas over M&S wanting Aldi to remove their caterpillar product from sale and agree not to sell anything similar in the future.

M&S was the first retailer to sell a caterpillar cake, but many supermarkets have since created their own similar products.

Other cakes include Waitrose's Cecil, Sainsbury's Wiggles, Tesco's Curly, and Asda's Clyde the Caterpillar.

While M&S suffer a meltdown over Colin, Crave will not help the company's already wafer-thin tolerance levels by producing a similar version, albeit in ice cream form.

But will it be enough to give M&S an ice cream headache, or start a Cold War, which may ultimately cost them 'hundreds and thousands'?!
