More than 74,000 Islanders, aged 45 years old and over, have now received the first dose of their Covid-19 vaccination - more than 90 per cent of those who are eligible.

The figures are based on provisional data from NHS England, for vaccinations up to April 18 and also use population data from the Office for National Statistics.

It shows the Island is performing well when it comes administering vaccines to residents, compared to other areas.

The next stage of the government's roadmap out of lockdown is expected to come into force on May 17.

Meanwhile, new Covid-19 cases remain low.

In the seven days to April 19, there was a rolling average of 15 new Covid-19 positives, per 100,000 people, on the Isle of Wight, well below the national average.

That is set against a backdrop of mass community testing, with quick result lateral flow tests available to all Islanders and the voluntary testing of secondary school students.

Today's case update is due at around 4pm.

Nationally, on April 21, one in five UK adults had been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.

A total of 10.8 million people had received both jabs, around 20.5 per cent of the adult population.
