STAFF and pupils at St. Saviour's Catholic Primary School in Totland Bay were delighted to welcome three furry visitors from West Wight Alpacas and Llamas this week.

Danny, Domino and award-winner Cool Runnings came to visit pupils with their handlers Neil and Kate.

A spokesperson for the school said: "The children were very excited to learn a bit about where Alpacas originated.

"They also got to stroke the animals and one child said it felt just like a teddy bear!"

To help the older children with their learning about South America, handler Neil explained how the Incas used the animals in packs and for their fleece.

The children learned the fleece of a Vicuna — a wild ancestor of the alpaca — was once worth more than gold.

As well as being a memorable way to learn, the visit also brought great joy to the school community after a long time without school trips or exciting learning experiences.
