A TRICKY two-hour rescue took place after a woman fell four metres from a wall in Northwood Park late last night (Monday).

The incident happened during Cowes Week and caused the temporary closure of a number of roads around the park, while the emergency services attended the scene.

While police closed the roads, the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service requested the assistance of the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service to reach the casualty, who had fallen into a hard-to-reach basement area near Northwood House.

Crews from Newport and Cowes attended, as well as a fire officer and the aerial ladder platform.

The call came in to the fire service at 11.16pm and the incident was declared over at 1.04am, after a rescue involving rope equipment and ladders.

The retrieved casualty was passed into the care of the ambulance team.
