AN ISLE of Wight man who was the brains behind the formation of Project Planet in 2018 is set for an ambitious world record attempt.

Oliver 'Oly' Rush set up the organisation with a mission to energise, inspire and enable the youth community to work together, boost eco-literacy and fight against climatic changes.

Oly will be attempting a solo swim around the Island, with the target of completing it in under 26 hours to set a new record.

The swim has only been completed four times previously.

Oly said: "I love the sea and am passionate about minimising the impact we have on the oceans.

"Last year I swam 100 miles in ten days to raise money for this cause and this year's challenge is even bigger.

"I am currently looking for a sponsors to cover the costs of this year's swim in order that all money raised can go directly to the charity."

Last year's swim — which took place across the entire Jurassic coast — raised money for two local environmental charities Oly works closely with.

He added: “We raised £10,000 and have since purchased essential equipment including a boat which has massively increased the work we can safely and effectively carry out.”
