YARMOUTH will be graced by the sound of the sea during the long weekend of Friday September 3 to Sunday September 5.
Following a missed year because of Covid, the popular free music festival, A Celebration of Sea Songs and Shanties, will take place on the green opposite Yarmouth Harbour, and in various other locations around the town.
With a host of local and national performers, the weekend hopes to build upon the success of previous years.
The event kicks off on the Friday at noon with performances continuing until early evening.
This timetable will be replicated on each of the following days, albeit with different acts walking the plank.
Food, an Island Ales beer tent and children’s entertainment will all be on hand to ensure visitors can relax and enjoy the event.
Sunday evening will see celebrations come to a dramatic conclusion with a ‘Fantasia of Sea Songs’ including renditions of Rule Britannia – complete with flag waving and audience participation.
Chris Waddington, chair of the festival committee, said: “It is marvellous to be running the festival again and we look forward to providing our growing audience with a fantastic weekend of traditional nautical music and songs.”
Thanks to the generous support of Yarmouth Harbour Commissioners, Island Brewery, Wightlink, Yarmouth Town Council and others, there will be no charge to access the event.
Collections will be made to raise funds for the Needles NCI – National Coastwatch.
Car parking will also be available.
