A footpath in Ventnor has been closed after what Island Roads calls the 'isolated movement' of a part of the failed section of the retaining wall on Belgrave Road.
It says, as a precaution, the Esplanade Road footway is now also closed.
Island Roads says the new movement appears to be further ‘settling’ after a partial collapse in 2020.
It means the stretch of road that collapsed in January 2020 has slumped further into its foundations.
Then, Belgrave Road was closed over fears its supporting wall would fail.
A huge crack had opened up, causing rubble to spill out underneath the wall.
It led to worries that some may fall onto Esplanade Road below.
Since then, barriers have been installed and the road has been closed.
However, on Monday (August 2), Ventnor was deluged by heavy and unexpected rain.
It caused water to cascade down Cascades Road, caused a crack in Shore Hill, temporarily forcing its closure, and triggered a landslip.

Steps that were in place to divert surface rainwater away from Belgrave Road were put to the test under the deluge.
Island Roads said: "While the wire mesh in place to retain material and protect pedestrians below has not been breached, the decision to close Esplanade Road has been taken as a precautionary measure in the interests of safety.
"We will of course continue to monitor the site and in the meantime, progress our plans to stabilise the retaining wall and rebuild Belgrave Road."
