A TEENAGE girl who was facing an accusation of attempting to murder her grandmother by attacking her with two guitars has pleaded guilty to a lesser offence.

The 14 year old, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Monday.

Her plea to attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent was accepted by the Crown Prosecution Service and the attempted murder charge has been withdrawn.

The alleged attack took place in Shanklin on February 19.

Previously, the court heard the girl attempted to use a bass guitar and an electric guitar as weapons.

The girl has been remanded to a youth detention centre, and she will next appear at Swindon Crown Court, for sentencing, in September.
