THE day before the year anniversary of the passing of her father, Roger Higgins, On July 2, Kim Pullinger, 50, embarked on a 12-hour sponsored walk around the Isle of Wight.
From 6am until 6pm she walked, upon all terrain, finishing in Newport with six minutes remaining, and determined to complete the full 12 hours, she continued to walk around a carpark for the final moments.
Her efforts, along with a charity raffle she arranged for the following day, resulted in an amazing £3,300 being raised for Breathe Easy Isle of Wight.
The charity is close to Kim's heart, as Roger and the rest of the family had regular involvement with them during the final years before his passing.
This is not the first, nor will it be the last, big fundraising event Kim has thrown herself into for the charity.
She says she is determined to keep raising money for people and families in similar situations, to make her dad proud, and keep his memory at the forefront of people's minds.
Kim said: "We would like to thank everyone who helped make it possible, every local business which donated prizes and helped with organisation."
Andy Savage, chairman of Breathe Easy Isle of Wight said he was overwhelmed by Kim's incredible efforts.
He said: "We're absolutely blown away by Kim's fundraising efforts for us.
"It is always sad to lose a member of the group, Roger, Kim and their family have kindly supported what we do for several years.
"We are discussing which medical equipment to purchase with the money Kim raised, with a defibrillator top of the list."
The Breathe Easy IW group meets between 2pm and 4pm on the first Tuesday of every month at Arreton Village Hall.
