IT ONLY happens once a year but it's a memorable occasion when a cricket match is played in the shallow depths of Bramble Bank.

This morning (Thursday), in the waters of The Solent between the Isle of Wight and Southampton, the water levels were just about low enough for a game.

The Royal Southern Yacht Club team played against The Island Sailing Club team, with the Royal Southern taking the win.

On hand in case they were needed were Cowes RNLI Lifeboat.

They said: "Great to be able to keep an eye out, luckily our services were not required."
